David Roy Grant, Jr.
February 10, 1932- August 19, 2008

My dad was born February 10, 1932 in San Francisco, California to Dr. & Mrs. D. Roy Grant. He was the oldest of 3. He grew up attending Catholic Schools and graduated from University of California at Berkeley in 1953. While at Cal he ran track and was a yell leader. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. He was proud to be the permanent president of his university class. Over the years he organized and enjoyed attending many Cal functions and reunions.

After college he enlisted in the army and faithfully served our country in the Korean Conflict. Dad went on to have a successful career with Shell Chemical Company which spanned over 38 years. Dad met Mom at Shell. They were married November 19, 1960. They had 4 children and 11 grandchildren.

In his retirement he and Mom enjoyed traveling. Dad went to Russia 3 times working to build orphanages and teach Bible school to Russian orphans.

Most memorably, he cooked a mean breakfast. Every morning. Everyone was welcome. He loved it.

My dad passed away yesterday surrounded by his family (Mom, Karen, Heather, Stew, sister-in-law Shelli & I) We kissed him, sang to him, and told him we loved him and that we will miss him so much until he took his last breath at 3:22.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2008
First United Methodist Church-Humble
800 Main Street
Humble, Texas 77338

He is survived by his loving wife Lani, daughter Karen & husband Rodney, daughter Heather, son Stewart & wife Shelli, daughter Mendi & husband Boyd. Eleven grand kids. Blake, Brooke, Grant, Whitney, Ashley, Zachary, Jonathan, Stephen, Joshua, Justin and Will. His sister Judy, brother Doug & wife Liz; nieces Kate, Meg, Louissa, Judy and Jenny and one nephew Kurt.

Hi Mendi,

We are so so sad.... Uncle Dave was such a precious man with a kind, gentle and generous heart. It's so hard being so far away from you all. We are going to have a little memorial service here near the river. Lou is meeting us halfway so we can all be together. We miss you all so much and wish we could be there. I'm so sorry that you guys have to go through this. I'm grateful for the time I was able to spend with you in October 06. We love you all so much. Please let Aunt Lani know that I love her.

Love Judes (and the rest of the Grants in Oz)
